Another reason (which I think someone touched on briefly) is religious.
Various religions could have objections to showing that level of reverence
to a person, seeing it as something that's reserved for God.

Jehovah's Witnesses, for example, don't pledge allegiance to the US flag, so
I can imagine that they would also not do reverances.  The Quaker religion
is another one that could potentially have issues with bowing to SCA
royalty, since historically, Quakers didn't pay such honors to *real*
royalty or nobility.

Of course, I'm sure that varies from person to person.
