Just my two cents but...
   
  At one time it was significantly easier to give "proper" acknowledgment to the various positions as there simply weren't all that many to worry about.  As our groups have expanded and progressed, we have acquired so many different pointy hats that telling the difference between the ones you need to worry about, and the ones for whom it would simply be a nicety, has become quite difficult.  It's not as though we're issued flash cards for keeping track!  Mind you, I do love the Pennsic roster.
