Whew, what a weekend! I think I’m finally recovered enough to actually thank all my staff for such a fabulous job they all did! We had a much larger crowd than we expected - 114 people on site, with 78 competing. I never, ever imagined that many people would show up.
Before anyone else, I have to thank Seamus MacCrae, former Kingdom Archery Champion, without whose talent this event never would have happened. At least, not for me! His targets were fabulous, challenging, and yet, loads of fun. From my perspective, everyone was having a great time, despite the heat and humidity (and occasional torrential downpour!). Seamus, you rock!
And now, for my wonderful staff. An autocrat rarely gets a chance to sit back and enjoy their own event. Usually, there's crisis and issues to fix, angry people to mollify, etc, etc, etc! But, with the exception of one minor problem, which was my own fault, and was quickly fixed, I had none for those issues to deal with! I kicked back, schmoozed with people, and had a great, relaxing day. And it's because I had a staff who knew what they were doing, and didn't need to be babysat all day.
In no particular order, they are:
Lady Cassie Charlesworth, my co-Autocrat and Merchant Coordinator. Cassie, did a fabulous job. If there were any problems, I never heard about them. She helped Seamus out on the archery range, and kept him well hydrated and healthy.
Lady Roana de Laci, who ran Troll fabulously, as always!!! She wrangled in her staff, taught them all the new rules before the event, and made sure everything ran smoothly. There were no long lines, or bottlenecks. And, on top of being Head Troll, she provided the event with three wonderful flavors of Sekunjabin!
Lady Taira no Akiyo Shichi-I, Head Cook for lunch. Despite having volunteered to Autocrat TNT in October, she managed to make the time to serve a wonderful lunch. Everyone was raving about how good the food was, and mn ay were surprised it was included in the site fee. A job well done to you and your staff!
Susan Morrison (aka Lady Deborah Morrison), who donated 20 pounds of game sausage for the lunch, and also served as our First Responder. She made sure everyone was drinking plenty of liquids. She took charge of the water stations, making sure they were always filled. She kept us healthy, and made us aware of the dangers and consequences of dehydration and heat exposure. Thank you, Susan!
Lord Michel von Schonsee, for playing field Herald for the day, and making sure we all knew what we were doing.
Lord Magnus MacTaggart, my wonderful hubby, for taking on the thankless job of parking attendant. Along with Baron Barre fitzRobert of York, he made sure that parking was done according to my design and without any apparent fuss from the attendees. He spent many hours out there in the heat, and I am very grateful for his efforts. He also helped Susan Morrison with the water stations, and generally lent a hand wherever work was needed to be done.
Lord Werner of Bloodguard, for volunteering his time to come to my event and help out wherever it was needed. Werner, you are an inspiration to us all. If more people were like you, the world would be a happier place.
Kevin O'Malley, illustrator and children's author, who drew all the images on every target in the competition. Every time I think about the time he put into this competition, it just staggers me!
And finally, to all the members of The Crescent Guard, who supported Seamus and me throughout this past year. On Saturday, Petr, Rhys, Cassie, Vaclav, and Baron Barre came out in the heat to help us set up this fabulous shoot. And on Sunday, Baron Barre, Vaclav and Treya were there to shoot them all once more before we tore them down and put them in storage. You guys are the bet. You all make me proud to be a member of The Crescent Guard!
There were others, who worked behind the scene, who are too numerous to mention. You all know who you are. You filled in when necessary, you helped as needed, and you quietly stood in the back, away from the spot light. Rest assured, I know who you all are, and I thank you all for everything.
One last thank you, to all the Archers in this fine kingdom of Atlantia, who made the trek, be it long or far, to attend my event. It was a resounding success, and it was because YOU showed up. Thanks you all!
YIS,
Lady Reyne Telarius
