/*I guess I hadn't really thought about _exact_ time period. I was just searching through the Web Gallery of Art for something else and noticed a painting of the Garden of Eden and in the foreground was what looked like a little dead lizard on it's back. I can imagine painting it in the scene for a thrill but I assume things like that weren't done, that there was probably a reason.*

I assume you're referring to things like "eyes on a plate =
St. XYZ; a spiked wheel = St. ABC; etc." -- no? Again, those
were not universal over our whole period and in all places.
/*Correct. I am referring to things like that and to items like flowers, lambs...
I know they were not universal, but was just hoping anyone could point out any info
on /anything/ in our time period. I would be grateful for any information. I know I'm being kinda vague about it all, and I hope that doesn't anger anyone, but I guess I was just seeking general information and not having to go buy a book.
Thank you most kindly for all your help,
Lady Margaret Sayher
