[MR] A 'source of sorrow'

Greetings to the tavern,

I wish to share with you a 'source of sorrow'.

Many years ago I joined a society which proclaimed to have a high regard for manners. This group "believed" in the "dream" of the chivalrous middle ages. I joined this group, because I, too, believed in the ideal of honor and courtesy.
My shining "dream" is getting tarnished, however, by the thoughtless comments of others. This time it was a remark concerning someone's garb. Normally, I would just pass the comment off as bad judgement on the part of the speaker. However, knowing the effect this comment had on the wearer of the garb (who really tries, and looks like it) and the maker of the garb (who does a most excellent job), I felt I needed to speak up.

Either we are not educating new people about our "dream" very well, or we have let our standards slip. I have been a chatelaine for a few years now, and I would ask each and every one to please watch their manners, especially at events where we may not know everyone well. Something said as a 'critique' or 'in jest' might crush the "dream" out of another.

Remember - we all represent THE DREAM

  Yours in Service to it,
  THL Livia of Ravenswode
