[MR] Conflicts with Holiday Faire weekend

Why is a "conflict" really such a problem?
I think the answer is in a need for bigger and bigger events...
a) Merchants want to maximize sales potential and walk through.
b) Groups are seeking greater and greater profits.
c) More and more activities are offered at events diluting
participation in specific activities.
There is a fear that if you don't include such-and-such activity then a
few folks won't show up(see a and b, above). We have to rent huge,
expensive halls. We have to have a squad of cooks to prep a gigantic
feast. We have such an enormous and overcrowded space to clean-up after
that it takes a significant number of us to do that rather than to be
at a Bardic or at Dancing.
Are we eventually going to be opperating the Renn-Faire pseudo-medieval
shopping mall where the "entertainment" is a sideline?
Does a group really need to make $1000 dollars or more at an event?
Are we running carnivals where you buy a ticket and stand in line at
the venues for your turn on the "ride"?
And when did we start organizing our events for the benefit of the
merchants? Most of them take their chances and provide a service, but
apparently not all.
Just what is our direction? Do we have one? Do we want one? Could we
ever, as a group, agree on one?
