Greetings!

Ed the Tinker is having a shoe-making workshop Saturday 25 Feb 2006
12:00-5:00.

This is the shoe we will plan to make:

http://members.ozemail.com.au/~chrisandpeter/shoe/construction.html

However, if you're really good at this kind of thing, or your desires
take you in a different direction, you may choose to do a different type
of shoe. (I plan on doing poulaines myself).

Here are some GREAT resources on all things shoes. This includes all
kinds of styles, tools, etc.

Poulaines:

http://www.virtue.to/articles/poulaines.html (Although I'm going to try
and make them more traditionally than Cynthia is recommending).

The cost for the workshop is $30.00 for each pair of shoes. This covers
the cost for all materials and supplies. Required tools will be
provided. (Although if you happen to have your own, bring them).

The workshop will be limited to the first 10 people who make
reservations. Folks who'd like to come and visit but not make shoes are
also welcome. Please send reservations to merritt at tatrc.org.

Food and soft drinks will be provided, but if you'd like to bring
something for the group to share, please feel free.

The workshop will be at 8604 Slate Hill Circle, Frederick MD 21704
(phone 301 631-8111)

DIRECTIONS:

 FROM FREDERICK/HAGERSTOWN:

Take I-70 E, exit 56. Turn left onto 144. You'll pass the National
Guard Armory, cross over the Monocacy River. Next street on the right
is Bartonsville Road. Turn right onto Bartonsville Road. Go about the
length of a football field. You'll see the River Oaks neighborhood on
the right. Turn right. Take the second left (Slate Hill Place). This
is a very short street that ends in two cul-de-sacs. One on the left,
and one on the right. We're the second house on the left in the
cul-de-sac on the left. Feel free to park on the grass in the
cul-de-sac.

 FROM GAITHERSBURG/DC:

Directions from I-270 can get a little complex. There is a new
interchange onto I-70 E, coming down I-270. This interchange is so new,
it might not be reflected on Mapquest yet. Anyway, follow I-270 all the
way to Frederick, where it ends. You will pass a mall on the right. Just
past the mall, I-270 splits. The far right lane exits out to I-70 E.
Then follow the directions from above to exit 56, etc.

 FROM BALTIMORE:

Take I-70 W. Get off at exit 59 onto 144. Curve to the right and merge
onto 144. Follow this through the light (Spring Ridge), then up the
hill. Note that 144 is split by a median. It merges at the top of the
hill. Once it merges, the next street at on the left is Bartonsville
Road. Turn left. Go about the length of a football field. You'll see
the River Oaks neighborhood on the right. Turn right.
Take the second left (Slate Hill Place). This is a very short street
that ends in two cul-de-sacs. One on the left, and one on the right.
We're the second house on the left in the cul-de-sac on the left.
Feel free to park on the grass in the cul-de-sac.
