Any heralds in the know, please feel free to correct
me but:

Ensigns (flags) are usually carried/displayed in war.
With the exceptions of a boat, which uses an ensign
even in times of peace to show its nation of origin.
(From what I've read, in the SCA, an Ensign may also
be used to designate or mark territory). It comes from
the French - ensiegne' from the latin 'insignia'. But
is a term used almost expressly for a military banner.

In England, the cross of st. george (red cross on
white field) was the English ensign and was carried
into battle by english forces as a flag AND a badge as
early as Edward I's time. A decree of Edward IV in
1481 made it compulsary for all soldiers to "..have
uppon hym a white jaket with a crosse of Seynt George
sewed theruppon". Not displaying the red cross was
punishable, and records of the period show that
indviduals would be unquestionably excused of murder
charges if they accidently killed their own forces
that failed to wear the emblem, during combat.

Hopefully, this is not too confusing. An Ensign should
not be confused with a coat of arms. During this same
period (the hundred year's war), The English kings'
coat of arms was the 3 gold lions on red quarterly
with the semi of silver fleur de lis on blue (earlier
in period, it was simply the 3 gold crowned lions on
red). To wear the king's coat of arms is equivalent to
introducing yourself to people as the king.
The king would have worn his own "coat of arms". His
army would have flown the ensign.

The quarterly blue/white w/crown within a green laurel
is the King/Sovereign badge of atlantia. Don't display
it unless you are the reigning ruler.

The populace badge (anyone within Atlantia may display
it) is "Spike"; a blue or white natural seahorse with
a unicorn horn (fieldless).

The Atlantian ensign blazon is: Per pale argent and
azure, a fess wavy cotised counterchanged. Which
someone has already posted a picture of. And can be
flown by any forces fighting for Atlantia.
(Technically, it should not be flown if you are not
fighting for Atlantia).
