The other kids will not make fun of you, but you will lose much of the benefit of having a pavilion, which is that cotton canvas (unlike nylon) breathes beautifully. You know that time in a nylon tent, in the morning, when you have to get out of bed because it's too hot to stay in the tent? In a canvas pavilion, especially if it's white, that time never comes. You can sleep in! You can take afternoon naps!
Besides, while all fabric eventually degrades from UV, nylon dies faster than canvas. My Panther is heading to its 12th Pennsic and it still looks and works like brand new. In that time I've replaced the fly on my nylon tent more than once due to UV causing it to literally fall apart.
