Why is it that so many people imagine that fantasy stories are a modern
invention?  Fairies, for example, may not be historic, but *fairy costumes*
certainly are--just look at Shakespeare.

Troll Gate, as a pun on Toll Gate, is a pun that would make perfect sense in
period.  Is it a punch line so old that it has lost its setup?  Perhaps, but
that is hardly uncommon, either now or back then.

Of all the SCA-isms to purge, that would hardly be the place to start!
