I have a farm, that means a pick up ours is a 4X2, not a 4X4, with a boat or
a livestock trailer behind it the V6 is pushing max, my other vehicle hauls
my rascal and is a mini Van both have over 20 gallon tanks and are needed.
Everything is 20 miles away, or more my wife's commuter bus, the feed
stores, the farm supply store you name it 20 miles. Rationing might work
for those in the city, and soccer Moms with SUVs but not for people who use
larger vehiciles for there intended purpose. Car pooling, consolidatng
trips, avoiding unecessary trips, careful acceleratting and deceleration
rates will do more to save gas, than most things as will proper inflation of
tires and keeping the car well tuned up. Other things is keeping the car
clean and empty of trash, that leaves less weight to haul if you have a
pickup remove the tailgate if you don't need it and install a cargo net, and
a flush top, this will increase the mpg by a large margin. It really isn't
that painful to cut your use of gas by 10% if everyone did tis you could
save quite a bit no matter where you live or what you drive. 10 to 15 years
and we will be getting more than 1% of the gas burned in cars moving people
13% of the power goes to the wheels, the rest is used up as heat in the
drive train.
