actually your majesty it reads:
"an acceptable thrusting blow to the face shall be a directed touch and
shall be substantially lighter than to other parts of the body"
the argument that a "directed touch" means mere contact is not applicable
since it also says "shall be substantially lighter than to other parts of
the body". the definition of substantial is one that can be argued but i
would offer that 51% is more than substantial. 25% is substantial as well
and i dont think anyone receiving a 25% cut in pay would argue that.
directed touch is very poor wording to use to try and describe a thrust that
is pointed straight at the face. directed touch is in there to prevent
people from taking a shot that scrapes the grille of their helmet. a shot
which, clearly, makes contact with the grille and hits a lot harder than
most people require of a thrust to be bested. yet, we dont take those and
some argue that the blade would never make contact with the face. that is
the intent of "directed touch" to most of us that have discussed and debated
the idea of light face thrusts. and yes, we have asked the sem for a
clarification on that and have been told that it will be made clear in the
rewrite.
personally i dont care for thrusts to the face being anything less than full
force. the fact that a little jab can end a fight robs so much of this
sport for me that i find it distasteful. 8)

Never explain - your friends do not need it and your enemies will not
believe you anyway.
If an injury has to be done to a man it should be so severe that his
vengeance need not be feared.

It is simple, the Society Marshal rules call for basically a touch kill to
the face. The wording is (directed touch). Personally We don't like the
idea that a scratch could determine the fight. Since we can't change
Society rules and make it full (or at least significant force), we just
removed them for Crown. Thrust are still allowed anywhere else.
