Excellent! The problem has been identified, it's extent examined, some venting has occurred...Now it's time to leverage this media to effect a problem-solving exercise.

You have my compliments for reminding us of the need to "close the loop" and find solutions when problems are so eloquently and thoroughly identified.

In Service,

I don't think saying, "enough is enough" is really going to address the
disillusionment or the weariness that was so clear in the original poster's
message. Neither is sending a message agreeing with them and adding other
accounts of like episodes. :) Perhaps it would help future folks and all of
us here if we thought of discussing ways to reduce individual workloads by
sharing the "wealth".
Society at large is in a "me for me" sort of phase - service is more
commonly given by throwing money, rather than time or individual effort, at
a problem. Events can seem like problems in the amount of work they entail
and little of that work is easy to define as it stands now - Cooks, Event
Stewards, Troll "heads" and MoLs, for the most part, have staff that they've
contacted in advance. Those slots are somewhat full and so volunteering to
help may often result in being turned away and feeling like you are
unwanted. That doesn't encourage a repeat, especially in a first-time or new
event goer. Could we, here on the Rose, compile a list of things that need
to be done at the 'average" event which could then be used as a guide for
helping out? For instance:

Parking. Do they need someone to help direct parking? Does the parking
person need a break, a drink, new batteries for their walkie-talkie?

Troll. Do the Troll folks need beverages? Someone to take the signup sheet
around to find volunteers for the later night times? Do they need guides to
direct folks to cabins/camping spots, parking?

Kitchen - does it need to be cleaned up Friday night so the Cook won't have
to clean on Saturday morning before they get started? How about the Hall/A&S
area?

Is help needed to set up all those pavilions on the field? Take them down?

Is someone in charge of checking out the bathrooms? Would they like someone
to do that periodically? How about I do it at X:00 and find someone else who
will do it at Y:00?

Who's in charge of garbage pickup? Would they like me to take care of it at
a certain time? Show me where the clean bags are and where the dumpster is
and I'll do at least one round of it.

Does that help?
Got more?

Hrothny
