Horrors!!! do people actually use Thompsons Water Seal
on canvas? i thought that was simply a bad joke.
canvas, when wet, should swell up and seal itself in
the rain. good canvas should not let water in. 

as for floorless vs. modern tents, i can testify that
once i started camping under canvas, i decided never
to go back. modern tents are like being sealed in a
plastic bubble.
