[MR] Woman Attacked at Pennsic

It sddens me to think the safety and sanctity of the "old days" of the sca
is dying, or has died away. In our maturity, of our growth over the last
few years, I have noticed comments and messages from time to time, becoming
more common of late than before, of theft and violence. Usually not to this
extreme. In Pennsic 29 my own daughter was victim to an abuse by a 20-x
year old from Texas while at Pennsic. These are sad times.

What was once told to me as i entered the SCA was that we weren't public,
but private with public demos from time to time. Part of being private and
not public was that our membership mostly grew by word-of-mouth from the
members already in, sort of pre-screening future members before introducing
them into the SCA life. Our members gaurded new members this way, and took
a very personal interest in their behavior as the member was looked upon as
"responsible," in a way, for the new persons actions and indoctrination.

It would seem this is no longer the case, and so we too, who once enjoyed
the notion of an honorable, worry free society, must now be more vigilant to
the highwaymen and other weaker fools that would trouble our people and
deprive us all of our security and freedom.

Each of us must way more carefully those we might interest in the SCA.
