I cannot say I was his friend because I never earned that right. He
was an inspiration and an example to me. His kindness, strength,
creativity, and nobility will remain with me for the rest of my days.

This verse is for him.

Where is the hand that swung the sword,
‘Gainst honored foe and savage horde,
That to fatigue would ne’er succumb.
	Requiem in Elysium

Where is the wit that wove with ease
The words that would inspire and please,
The tongue that never languished dumb.
	Requiem in Elysium

Where is the back which bore the weight
Of tasks and toils both small and great,
Did never crook’d nor bent become.
	Requiem in Elysium

Where is the heart that loved so true,
With passion as a love but new
Yet steady as Dumbarton’s Drum.
	Requiem in Elysium

He waits for us beyond all pain,
Where someday we shall meet again,
But ‘til that blessed day shall come,
	Requiem in Elysium
