I can really understand this feeling... Not WHY it happens, but THAT it
happens. Happily, things change for many reasons, and while for a long
time I wondered "Why can't I connect with any of these people?" now I
just dare you to try to get between me and my SCAdian friends. Without
them I would be way too alone in this world.

Life is good, and the SCA can surely be one of the best things in it.

Vivat Atlantia!

Greetings to the all of this fine tavern-
I read but never post to the Merry Rose, but felt the urge to forward
this on, a pat on the back if you will.
Vivats to the fine people of Atlantia, in particular my barony (Highlnad
Foorde) and to Stierbach! The original message is at the bottom and
goes upwards.

No, most of you folks don't know me. Mundanely, I'm
Laura Lindsay from Pittsburgh. "Societally" (If I may
be forgiven coining such a silly word), I am Alise
Taliard of the Barony-Marche of the Debatable Lands.

I joined this list only because I knew no other way to
contact your barony to say this:

I am new to the SCA. Have been to a few events in my
area, tried to start conversations with other
attendees, and generally went away from events
frustrated as all heck thinking "Jeez, trying to make
friends here is like pulling teeth!"

I ALMOST gave up on the SCA entirely. Too tight-knit
for a relatively shy person like me to break into, I
guess.

Now I don;t say this to put my barony down. Since
those days I've met a couple of the people and slowly
I'm building friendships. But the reason I DO mention
how tough it was with them, is to compliment all of
you on how friendly all of you were at Pennsic.

I was camped next to your barony, and I have to tell
you all that a kinder group of strangers I never knew!
You restored my faith in the kindness of the SCA.
You all are to be commended for your reaching out to a
stranger who had no one else at the War.

I thank you all for helping to make it one of the
loveliest "vacations" of my life.

I wish your group well, and hope to see you again
through the years. Alise
