I believe I did not speak out of turn regarding access to the University of Michigan Library site. I obtained a "trial access" through the previous page to this page http://www.press.umich.edu/webhome/mec/announce.html
I have tried it from another computer and the username and password are not unique to my inquiry.
Hope this clears up any confusion.

Another Middle English dictionary is from Project Gutenberg, which is
available to all:

Project Gutenberg is also a source for a number of works by Dante,
Chaucer, etc.
