I agree, the best protection for your child is YOU.
There is no reason what so ever for the SCA to change
it's policies regarding children except for tweaking
the childrens list rules, but that's another thing.
Don't scoff at the gut feeling method. It works.
It's a real emotion that you should trust. You will
know it if you ever feel it and I hope none of us ever
have to use this skill.
In life there are risks, it's just part of life.
But the best thing the SCA can do as an organization
is take all alligations seriously. Never ignore a
rumor of a possible problem. Too many other
organizations/religious groups etc. thought, to thier
grief, that they could "hush" the problem up. That if
the word got out they would suffer as a group. Well as
we all know that sort of, ignore it and it will go
away, mentality makes the problem worse for them, not
better.
I applaud this discussion as long as we leave the
specific facts of any cases out. We are not the judge,
nor the jury and we should not be so presumptuous that
"We" know all the facts.
I have always felt the SCA was a safe place for my
family because I was always WITH my children. My kids
are having a great time in the SCA and I would hope
they continue to learn and grow. We are fun people and
very honorable.
