I agree with Magdalena de Hazebrouck. The Children's programs have come
along way and continue to move in a positive drection. Placing them near the rest
of the activities would be a great idea. However, at some sites, that just
isn't possible. The placement of the activity also depends on what the
children are going to be doing. If the activity has to be far from the rest of the
populace or in an enclosed room, maybe more supervision should be required.
As far as arguing about running them if the guidelines are unable to be
followed, don't do it. If not enough adults are available, either find some or
cancel the activities. I know that this puts a cramp in many people's plans, but
the children's safety is most important. I'm sure most people, if not all,
would rather keep their child with them rather than place them in potentially
unsafe situation. This isn't only concerning abuse, but also inadequate
supervision. One person can not physically watch more than a few children, even
teachers with the proper training have assistants. Many of the older youth would
love to work with the children's activities. As long as they aren't given the
responsibility of running the programs or being left without adults, there
should be no problem getting help.
By looking at other organizations we could get a better view of how to go
about making our children safer and happier as well as give the parents a more
secure feeling about leaving their children and also enjoying their day. I also
agree that Private camps should not be used for children's activities. If a
private camp would like to assist in the children's activities, they should
contact the autocrat and make sure a space is made available.
