The following event announcement evidently arrived too late to make it
into the March Acorn. So, at the request of the autocrat, I am posting
it here:

                       Challenge of the Heart
                          April 12th, 2003
                       Barony of Dun Carraig
There is a fragile truce in the Holy Land. Crusaders and Arabs alike
are enjoying a break in the hostilities by gathering for a day of
fellowship and feasting. Come for a day of celebration, demonstrations
of skill at arms and arts, and good cheer.
The day will see both individual and melee armored competition. The
tourney will start at noon after any authorizations.
There will also be three Arts and Sciences competitions: a contest for
the most authentic Crusader or Middle Eastern garb; the second will be
a contest for forms of illumination depicting passages or relics of the
Crusades (done in either language); and finally a competition for
either song or poetic verse depicting something dealing with the
Crusades. For all of these, documentation is suggested but not
required. All entries are welcome.
The evening feast of Middle Eastern fare will be prepared by Laird
Muirghen Rhudh. Merchants are welcome; please contact the autocrat in
advance of the event. There is also a possibility during the day of
classes in Middle Eastern dance and drumming; please check Dun
Carraig’s website for up-to-date information
(http://duncarraig.atlantia.sca.org)
The site for this event is St. James Parish in Lothian, MD. It will
open at 11:00 am and close at 11:00 pm. The site is discreetly wet.
The fee for this event is $14 on-board, $7 day trip. Non-SCA members
please add $3.00 per reservation. Children under 10 are $5 on-board, $2
day trip. Babes in arms are free. Checks must be made payable to the
Barony of Dun Carraig / SCA, Inc.
Please send your reservations to Lady Amalia Kunne (Heather Kriebel) at
1210 Addison Court, Waldorf, MD 20602. Please include the names of
everyone in your party, their SCA Membership numbers, type of
reservation (On-Board or Day Trip), and your contact phone number. In
order to preserve the sanity of the autocrat and the cook you are
encouraged to mail your reservations early. Please remember: The only
true reservation is a paid reservation!
If you have any questions concerning the event, contact the autocrat,
Baron Phillip of Ghent (Jim Garm) at (410) 535-2152 (before 10:00 pm).
