actually its not new.  however, the clarification of the rules from the
society marshal says that street hockey gloves are not equivalent to a
shield basket or a hockey glove.  

so, you must either have a basket, a  gauntlet, or a hockey glove to protect
the shield hand.

Greetings All,

So speaking of rumors and gosip and snatches of twice-told tales ... I heard

at a regular SCA lunch I attend that it has been determined at a society 
level that shields must now have baskets as hockey gloves have been 
disallowed. Can this, along with all pertinent details like Timeframe For 
Compliance, be confirmed by the marshallate staff, please?
