Description: Let all who have suits to settle, marriages to arrange,
goods to be traded or challenges to make bring their business to the
Tingvellir! Be you Norse, Irish, Scots, Welsh, Angle, Frisian, Finn or
Norman come to the social event of the Nordic year, the Althyng. We
offer again many of your favorite pastimes. We encourage you to play in
persona-bring suit before the Thyng, start a family feud, barter and
trade, or challenge an opponent to holmganga.

Please bring your Viking tents to add to the atmosphere. The theme of
the A & S competitions is "Tools of the Trade". Bring your period tools
for whatever craft you do. There will be a competition for individual
tools, as well as for the best tool set for a craft. For the tool set
competition you do not have to have made all the tools yourself. We will
be looking for completeness, appropriateness, and appearance.

Martial Activities: Archery, axe throwing and bardic activities return,
as well as the infamous Magyar Memorial Bunny Hunt and Free For All.

Master Bryce de Byram will be have a variety of entertaining tournements
for the Heavy fighters.

Arts & Sciences Activities: Classes in various Viking arts and crafts
will be held. Mistress Bronach Nalbrjotr (mka Anne Gonnella) and Walter
Bowman (mka Roger Tarr) will be leading classes. They can be contacted
gonnella at stsci.edu. There will be children A&S activities and games as
well.

Cost: Adult, Member: $6.00 Day-Trip $8.00 Feast $10.00 Camping
Adult, Non-Member: $9.00 Day-Trip $8.00 Feast $13.00 Camping
Child (6-17): $3.00 Day-Trip $5.00 Feast $5.00 Camping
Child (0-5): $0.00 Day-Trip $0.00 Feast $0.00 Camping

Cost Notes: Add $1 for day-tripping. And $2 each for feast and camping
reservations sent after Sept 12th.

Site: The site opens at 3 p.m. on Friday and closes at 2 p.m. on Sunday.

There is a small convenience store right down the road, and restaurants
and accommodations in Dillwyn and Fork Union. .
Site Restrictions: The site is primitive. Please bring your Pennsic
showers and drinking water. Port-a-potties will be available on-site.

Feast Information: Enjoy a simple but hearty feast Saturday night.
Dietary questions to the cooks, Mistress Aelfwynn Gyrthesdohtor and
Master Thomas Longshanks (a5foil at ix.netcom.com) no later than Thursday,
September 18.

Other Information: After dinner on Saturday night there will be a Viking
memorial service for Master Finnr Grimulfsson (James Howell). Please
contact the autocrat for details or if you wish to participate.

Directions: Take your best route to I-64 between Richmond and
Charlottesville. From I-64 East or West, take exit 136. Get on Route 15
South at Zion's Crossroads (in direction of Exxon station, Burger King,
and McDonald's). Follow Rt. 15 South to Dixie. When you reach Dixie,
stay to the right to continue on Rt. 15 past Fork Union Military Academy
(2 miles), across the James River Bridge (6.4 miles from Dixie), and
past Jax (9.9 miles past Dixie) to its intersection with Rt. 810 (12.5
miles total from Dixie). Kenny and Jennifer live in the first white
house on your left (northeast corner of the intersection). Look for the
K&W Repair service van in the circle driveway (in front of the smaller
"office" building).
