Just an FYI to anyone who's interested in wearing garb
made from more period appropriate fibers: linen isn't
expensive if you buy it on line!

My linen comes from fabrics-store.com, and the most
expensive items are around $6/yard, 59" wide fabric in
a very wide range of colors and weights. Shipping is
(or was) around $5. This is linen from Russia. vThe do
stock handkerchief weight linen in 2 or 3 colors.

I'm having a less satisfying time of finding a good,
cheap source for lightweight wools, but there is one
site that tends to have a decent enough selection,
again at under $7 a yard. Unfortunately that link is
on my work computer so I can't post it right now
(d'oh!).

As for silks, I haven't found anything that beats
dharma trading's prices, so please post if you know a
better source! I've noticed several offerings of
non-slubby Thai silks on ebay, but the prices are
averaging around $10 a yard. Which is, of course,
better than $20 a yard, but still pricey.

None of this beats the times when you can find 100%
cotton for $2-3 a yard, of course! But people who do
want to pursue a higher standard of accuracy when
making their garb or table linens etc, etc. can manage
it without paying fancy fabric store prices. I hope
people with other sources for useful items at
reasonable prices will post the info for us all to use
& pass around.
