Nay, good lady: the two words are not that closely related. Consider 
the glorious years of the Roman Empire, now long past. All were subjects 
of the Emperor, yet some were also citizens.

What I was taught, for better or worse, in the SCA was that in the Society 
all are considered both citizens of a kingdom *and* subjects of its Crown.

I consider your question one well worth asking and thank you for asking 
it.
