June 28th-30th, 2002

Site: The Barony of Storvik proudly presents Novice Tourney at Marietta
Mansion, 5626 Bell Station Road, Glenn Dale, MD, 20769-9120! Alcohol is
permitted but no original containers please. Arrive onsite as early as
4pm on Friday and all need to depart no later than 3pm on Sunday.
Note: Northern Regional War Practice follows Sunday at Marietta Mansion
after Novice Tourney!
New Theme: This year's Novice Tourney will have a Middle Eastern theme
(but all gentles of the Known World are welcome!), so bring your zills,
dumbeks and backgammon sets! Arts & Sciences classes will also have a
Middle Eastern flair - planned classes include belly dancing, drumming,
illumination, henna designs, and making sekanjebin (What is that? Attend
and discover!) AND possibly a siege weapons class!
Fighting: If you have been an authorized fighter for a year or less (or
want to authorize before Pennsic), please come and test your skills
against your peers. Prizes will be awarded for the winner of the
tourney, as well as for most honorable novice fighter, and best death!
The format of the tourney will depend on the level of participation.
Following a short break after the tourney, all heavy fighters are called
to a melee practice as time allows. Also, as a bonus, on Sunday there
will be a Northern Regional War Practice! Two chances to fight for one
event! As Pennsic is fast approaching, this will be a great opportunity
to show the novices what to expect at war!
Archery: There will be archery!!! There will be Combat Archery at the
Northern Regional War Practice on Sunday (we found a combat Archery
Marshall)!!
The A&S Contests: Bardic Arts Competition - Proudly display your skills
at singing, dancing, storytelling juggling or any other special talents!
Novice Competition - Submit the fruits of any labor you've practiced for
two years or less!
Feast: Saturday night, Lady Devora bat Shimshon will preside as Cook,
serving a selection of traditional Sephardic fare. There is room for 60.

Bonfire: Saturday Night there will be a drum circle, dancing, and
general FUN!!
Cost: For reservations received by June 19, 2002 - adults: On-Board
$12.50, Off-Board $6.50;Children (6-12): On-Board $6.00, Off-Board
$3.00; Children under 5: On-Board $3, In-Lap or Off-Board - FREE! For
those reservations received after June 19th, please add $1.50 to all
adult fees. Please make checks payable to Barony of Storvik, SCA Inc.
Camping/Facilities: Marietta Mansion is a rustic site. Plenty of land is
available for camping on site Friday and Saturday night. There are
portolets, but no showers.

Directions:

Marietta Mansion is off of Route 193, Glenn Dale Blvd., just north of
Route 450, Annapolis Road. From the Beltway, take Exit 20 onto Rt. 450
East. Go 4 miles. Turn left on Rt. 193 go about 0.38 miles. Turn left
onto Bell Station Rd. for 0.06 miles. Turn left again into Marietta.
From Baltimore, Take 95 South to the Beltway, go left onto 95/495
South. Take exit 23 (Kenilworth Ave.). Keep right so you can turn left
onto Rt. 193 on the over-pass. Keep going until you see the signs for
Marietta Mansion on the right. If you get to the Rt. 450 junction, you
have overshot, turn around and take the first left. Directions from
Virginia: Get on 95 north to 95/495 north. Take exit 23 and follow the
directions from Kenilworth Avenue above.
