Directions to Newcomer's Event:
Take your best route to the intersection of 85 and 26
at Spartanburg. Take 26 east toward Columbia, travel 3
1/2 miles to Exit 22 (Reidville Rd/Hwy 296). Turn left
onto Reidville Rd, go one mile to 295. This goes to
the right only, so turn right! (Look familiar? 295
(Southport Rd) will take you past the turn-off for
Passage East III.) Follow 295 6 miles to Hwy 56, and
take another right. Croft State Park is 2.3 miles
ahead, look for the state park sign pointing you left
onto Dairy Ridge Rd, then you will see the park
entrance immediately on the right. We have reserved
Pavillion 1, which is a straight shot once you get
into the park.
If you are coming up 26, you may choose to take the
scenic route up Hwy 56 and approach the park that way.
The site is shaded, with play equipment for the
smalls, a large pavillion with lots of tables, and a
comfort station. It is open enough to set up
pavillions and for fighting.
Falcon Cree now turns our hearts and hands toward
welcoming newcomers to the SCA from all over the area
by hosting a Newcomer's Event.
This is a dawn to dusk event, Saturday, June 15, at
Croft State Park in Spartanburg. There will be no
reservations, but donations will be accepted to defray
minor expenses. There will be no feast, but there will
be maps to local eateries, some may want to caravan to
town for meals, or you may bring your own picnic.
There are picnic grills. This is a dry site, and due
to site restrictions, we cannot have merchanting.
There will be a Quest for the newcomers to encourage
them to explore many facets of the SCA. All goode
gentles are invited to come with pavillions,
comfortable chairs, and a multitude of finished works,
and works in progress of all types. This is the venue
to show, and tell, and where possible, allow newcomers
to try their hand at a variety of arts, sciences,
sport, or skills, and learn about the SCA offices,
orders, and awards.
Since no reservations, I encourage feedback here if
you are planning to come, and, although some of these
will be obvious, what arts/skills/sports you will
bring to the event to introduce the newcomers to.(
This is kind of cheating on my part---you, my good
friends, will be helping me write this flier! )
Newcomers on this list may send their requests, as
well, if there is a particular topic you would like to
learn about.
Your humble autocrat in training,
Beth of Falcon Cree
PS If anyone would like to forward this to other
groups close enough to daytrip, you are welcome to do
so. We want to support all our area newcomers.
