{E'}ile ingen {A'}eda. Device.
Per pale azure and vert, a triquetra argent.
Conflict with the badge of Charles Stewart O'Connor: Gules, a
triquetra argent. There is only one Clear Difference for the
tincture change of the field.
Gwyneth Lewelyne. Device resubmission.
Per saltire gules and sable, a lion salient Or.
While this corrects the field problems of the previous submission, it
does nothing to change the numerous conflicts against a single gold
lion: Bulgaria Gules, a lion rampant crowned Or. Rhine,
Palatinate of the Sable, a lion rampant Or crowned gules. Belgium
Sable, a lion rampant Or. William MacQueen of MacQueen Per bend
argent and azure, a mountain lion [Felis concolor] rampant proper.
Laszlo Oroszlanveri Vert, a lion rampant dismembered Or, multiply
vulned gules.Salient' has been specifically ruled as equivalent to
rampant', as they differ only in the posture of one leg, so there is
only one Clear Difference for the changes to the field.
There are no registered rampant gold lions on this field, so if you
add secondary charges (small ones around the lion, one in each
corner' of the shield) this will be clear. Avoid stars and swords,
as these have already been used for secondaries.
Iustinus Ombrocarhenos. Name and device.
Per pale vert and argent, three bars wavy counterchanged, overall a
lyre erminois.
The byname is intended to mean lover of rain'. While the
documentation appeared to show the word in a dictionary, nothing was
provided to show that this is a reasonable name. Many words in any
dictionary are invalid as names. Without more substantive
documentation that lover of <something>' is a period Greek byname,
we have to return the name. While we found no conflicts with the
device, kingdoms are not allowed to form a holding name' in order to
send it forward, so we must return it as well.
Quenthryth of Laure. Badge. (Fieldless) A horse's head erased
azure.
This is returned for a redraw. The 'erasure' of the neck has far too
many tiny jags, resulting in the kind of division known as 'pinking
shear'. (Laurels have been known to return items for that alone.)
"Erased" generally has three or four large jags; please see a good
heraldry book for examples. In combination with the almost complete
lack of ears and mane, identifiability was sufficiently reduced that
no one who had not heard the blazon could identify this as a horse's
head.
Quenthryth of Laure. Badge. (Fieldless) a winged cat passant to
sinister bendy sinister argent and purpure.
This is returned for a redraw. Here the extremely heavy lines, the
lack of internal detail, and the multiplicity of narrow stripes
obscured the identity of the charge. It was easy to tell that it was
a winged quadruped, but no one at the meeting could identify it as a
cat.
Rory Daughton. Device. Per fess purpure and argent, in saltire a
drop spindle and a sword counterchanged.
This is returned for a redraw. While the hook on the drop spindle is
drawn in proper proportion, it is so small that everyone at the
meeting initially saw this as two swords in saltire, one a broadsword
and one a rapier. Sometimes in heraldry, to make identification
clear, we need to exaggerate part of the charge. An example is the
large points and fletching needed for arrows; if the points and
fletchings are drawn in proper proportions, Laurel will return them.
We suggest either exaggerating the hook of the spindle, or threading
the spindle to aid in identification. (NOTE: Rory has resubmitted
this, which will be reviewed at the January meeting.)
Sorcha inghean Eilidh. Device resubmission.
Per bend sinister purpure and vert, a gazelle trippant to sinister
and a bordure argent.
This adds a bordure to clear the conflict that caused the return of
the last submission. However, the colors are not clear, especially
the purple. About half the attendees at the meeting saw it as
midnight blue. Laurel consistently returns submissions that have
colors halfway between one tincture and another, so we must also. If
you resubmit with true colors (Crayola Classic markers are
recommended) we see no further problems.
Wolfram von Taus. Device resubmission.
Per bend sinister sable and gules, a boar's head erased Or.
This was last returned for conflict against Harold von Auerbach:
(Fieldless) A unicornate boar's head erased Or. This submission has
done nothing to change the conflict status. There is one Clear
Difference for the tincture of the field. We recommend that you add
a bordure or some other secondary charges to clear this conflict.
(NOTE: Wolfram resubmitted this in December with a letter of
permission to conflict.)
