Aedan,

This is a statement that I think is indicative of a lot of problems that we
have... this is something that crosses from the mediaeval into the modern. We
all have the right to be treated as if we are NOT guilty first, and that it is
up to those accusing to prove that we are. The process itself appears broken...
that process being what the BoD went through to prosecute, try, and sentence His
Grace.

Was there? In reading the allegations, you can see over and over again words
such as "second hand", "no basis", "haven't seen the letter", etc. We've all
played the game where you start a story at one end and see how it differs by the
time it gets to the other. A friend of mine was waving his hands around while
telling a story once, accidentally bumped the Princess of the Mists face, and
within 24 hours the story was that he had beaten her while in a drunken frenzy.
Certainly three years after the fact with no written documentation other than "I
heard..." or "A friend of mine saw..." what in the world would it be now?

Reference what I said above.

When did they start the process? About 5 months ago, it appears. Too much
appears to be hearsay, and a show of power. It seems to me that if we all are
held to that same standard of defense, I daresay
more than half the SCA membership would have to be banished. Heavy hitting?
Happens every Crown. People getting "pumped" at a War? Happens every war.
Marshals being assholes and complaining when someone disagrees? Its happened to
me, the one who knows darn well that I need to find a offense... me hit hard?
Hah! If those are the bases for which they did this, they seem to hold him to a
higher standard than the rest of us. And what is going to keep them from doing
the same thing to every single charismatic, leader willing to go out on a limb
and make sure that our dream continues to grow, evolve and blossom.
