I had a friend of mine in Drachenwald, a fencer (much more popular there by the way, proportionately), who during a debate of such things reminded me that chainmaille is little more than a series of linked holes.

I tried fencing while I was there. It does take more endurance as far as constant aerobic activity, compared to the endurance of weight. It's the difference of running 6 miles at an 8 minute mile pace unencumbered and walking 4 miles with an 85 pound load at a 15 minute a mile pace.

But, I get more joy out of standing in the shieldwall, sacrificing myself so the poles and spearmen take care of business.
