i can only take one or two tiny little jabs. the premise i found "silly,
asinine, whatever" was the one suggesting that being able to get a group of
guys together to fight in a melee was proof of good leadership and nothing
more.

i do not believe that holding a crown list were the final outcome is decided
by a popularity contest is a good idea. the lines would be drawn long
before the finals so the notion of having 12 hours to sway people to your
cause is unrealistic as alliances already exist. the war crown scenario
sounds like a lot of fun for an event but is not practical when the "prize"
carries as much emotional weight as it does. the potential for emotions to
get out of control is too great, the potential for accusations to fly is too
great, and the removal of the heroic accomplishment of standing as the
victor for the day is detrimental. the subject alone cant be discussed in
this forum without allegations of personal attacks and little snide remarks
being volleyed about. i remember when atlantia used to have a few "border"
wars between baronies and those were stopped because it became personal and
emotional (hopefully they can be started again at some point). to think
that the same thing wouldnt happen if the "prize" were the crown is (insert
whatever non offensive term to relate my disagreement).

with single combat fights it is much easier to control disruptive behavior.
the pressure is on the combatants to do whats right. the emotions are high
(ive seen many grown ups come to tears over crown fights. some after
winning and some after losing). there are simply too many variables that
effect the outcome to ensure that the one who sits the throne, won the
throne. and the potential for abuse is also way too high. 4 or 5 guys can
ensure that their guy wins in a 30 man list if the outcome is decided by a
melee.

sorry to repost many of the points that have been made time and again but
the need to post an articulate explanation apparently is needed.

i offer only opinions based on first hand experience and insight. doesnt
mean they are right but again are offered as an attempt to illicit some
thought on the subject.

regards
logan

Fascinating (in the good sense). The scenario Avaloc puts forth
would not be permissible under Atlantian Law (unless that were one
of the waivable provisions -- I suspect not), but it does raise
provocative points that are worth open discussion. The rationale
does not appear to be "silly" or "asinine".

I commend it to everyones attention.
