Not true.  Names (including the names of awards and orders) and armory
held by groups are "owned" by the SCA, but names and armory held by
individuals are owned by that individual.

Titles are a different issue; titles of rank are not "owned", the only
control the BoD has is how they are used *in the context of the Society*.
Heraldic titles are a type of name; most are owned by the SCA, but a few
have been given permanently to individuals.  The BoD could not prevent
you from referring to yourself in a new group as "Sir Hrothgar" but could
in theory sue you if in that group you referred to yourself as a "Knight
of the SCA" or "member of the Order of the Golden Dolphin".
