Sorry if I'm coming late to this discussion.

My mother's family is from Baltimore. Baltimore has every ethnic group you
can imagine so I have no idea where this came from but, on Easter we used to
"pick eggs."

In fact we had a song, sorta.  I would take an egg and wrap my hand around
it so as to barely expose one end and then the person I challeged would tap
the end of his egg against mine.  Whose ever cracked lost their egg.

The challege song was "Who's got a guinea ghee, who wants to picka me, who's
got an egg"

Ok it was more of a chant than a song.
