I beg the readers indulgence, and request that the more learned members
here educate me on this matter.
If I read this correctly, the proposed change reads that, essentially, "all
future Crown Lists in the Known World must be single combat," not "if we
don't make these changes, all future Crown Lists will be mercenary melees."
If my knowledge of Society history is correct, there have been hundreds of
Crown Lists. Under the law as it is currently written, we have had one
King, in one Kingdom, run one Crown List which included melee as part of
it's competition. Is the King who was chosen this way such an unchivalrous
monster that this law must be implemented to rectify the situation? I
don't recollect any mention of that on any list I belong to.
I'm not sure I see the danger to our current system of choosing the next
Prince/Princess. Is this such a Pandora's Box, that now one incident has
occurred, all sorts of outlandish ideas will be put forth for running Crown
List by future Kings?
I am under the impression that in many Kingdoms the current Crown gets to
choose how he would like his Crown list to be run, and chooses among those
who put in Letters of Intent who he finds suitable for the competition. I
know some Kingdoms even allow the current King to over-rule Kingdom law in
order to run the Crown List exactly as he would like, so long as he still
meets Society Law (as in the Kingdom of Trimaris where a recent King
allowed shields larger than normal, so long as they were historically
accurate, while specifically banning the very common 'flat rectagle' from
the competition.) In what Kingdom is it allowed for the participants of
Crown Lists to behave in an unchivalrous manner without fear of
consequences? Would not an individual or group of people who had openly
abused the King's rules of the Crown List in order to win, by hook or
crook, be brought promptly before a Court of Chivalry? If this is so, and
that check to the unchivalrousness of competitors exists, why is any change
to Corpora necessary?
Please, I beg for your kind tutelege in this matter.
Your Unworthy Supplicant,
Lord Frederich Von Teufel
