Greetings Atlantia!
I hope that this message finds you well. I'd like to take a moment to
remind you that Storviks Yule Revel is this Saturday, January 4th. I will
post the full event announcement below, but here's a quick summary.
During the day, the hall will be open for informal A&S gatherings and
classes, and after a dinner break we will be holding our traditional desert
revel. I encourage you to join us during the day, bringing with you
whatever art or craft happens to have captured your attention at the
moment,to wile away the winter's day. If possible/applicable please
consider bringing extra supplies so someone else can try their hand at what
you're up to.
Should you not have a project to bring, do not despair, just bring yourself
and a willingness to learn. Most of us can be counted upon to show you what
it is we're up to ;) Perhaps you'll go away with new skill or obsession.
For those interested in cooking Lady Orlaith and Lady Tirzah have been
planning hands-on cooking classes in the church's kitchen during the day.
For those with children, a full day of children's activities has also been
planned (although I believe there are no children's activities planned for
the evening).
Come evening there will be deserts, dance, deserts, delightful
conversations, deserts, more dancing, and more deserts!!
Should you wish to teach something on a more formal basis, or have special
space requirements please contact me to work out the details. Please note
that I am not subscribed to this list, as such please see below information
to contact me directly.
I look forward to seeing you at Yule revel.
Yours in Service,
Lady Mor Fhionn (Moirin)

Yule Revel-To While Away a Winters Day
Barony of Storvik
January 4th, 2003
As the days darken and the howling winter winds blow across our lands there
comes a day for us to gather together in warmth of friendship and merriment.
We invite you to join us as we light the candle of learning against the
growing darkness, and fuel the fire of friendship to keep our hearts warm
through the dark night.
During the day we will "wile away the winter's day", and as such will be
holding informal classes and gatherings for many different arts and crafts
around the great hall. Among the A&S activities we expect to have
represented are Calligraphy & Illumination, Embroidery, hands-on Cooking
classes, Leather Working, Heraldry, Bardic Arts, Spinning, and Weaving.
Please visit the Storvik website (http://storvik.atlantia.sca.org) for more
details in the days closer to the event.
Following a dinner break (dinner not provided but there are many local
off-site dining establishments to fit any budget), we will re-open the site
for our traditional Yule Revel.
The evening will be filled with Deserts, Dancing, and perhaps we'll even
have a visit from Father Christmas himself.
A&S Competitions: Toys & Kids Stuff: Gentles are asked to enter items that
medieval children used or played with. Please be aware that judges are
likely to "test" the entries, and therefore fragile/delicate entries are not
encouraged. Our young judges will award one to three points in the following
categories: a) Is it pretty/nice, b) is it fun, and c) would you want one.
Judges will also award an extra point to their favorite entry. The entry
sheets will have a line for what the object is, who used it, and when it was
used. You are welcome to provide additional documentation for curious
adults, but it is not necessary. If you are entering a game or similar item,
please provide instructions for play. Anyone under the age of 14 is asked to
help us judge the competition. Anyone wishing to judge need only ask at
troll, and they will be pointed towards a competition organizer. Judges need
to bring a literate parent or guardian to help fill out the judging sheets.
Judges may need to test out the entries to make sure they work, but parents
are still expected to be responsible for their children.
Cooking: For our bakers and sweets makers we will be holding competitions in
the following categories: Best Period Desert, Best Non Period Desert, and
Best Subtlety.
Cost: Adult, Member: $7.00 Children (10 and under): $3.00
Adult, Non-Member: $10.00 Babes in arms are the guests of the Barony.
We encourage you to bring deserts to share, and as such are offering a $2
discount to all adults who bring a desert that will serve 6 people.
Site: St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 4512 College Ave, College Park, MD
20740. The site will open at 9am and close at 11pm. The site will be closed
from 5pm-6:30pm in order to allow us time to changeover from the day's
activities and prepare for evening's revel. All gentles remaining onsite
during this period will be asked to assist with this process. Restrictions:
The site is damp, with wine being the only acceptable alcoholic beverage.
Due to site space restrictions we regret we will not be able offer space to
merchants.
