[MR] mundane names and the OP

i only wish at some point you find yourself happy.

as mordrea has stated clearly time and time again she uses these names to
make sure that we have some level of record keeping. the fact that many
women change their names after marriage to their husbands birth names has
little significance in this. if you dont want your name to be on any record
im sure that mordrea would oblige . since we are being nit picky i would
only suggest that there is nothing "mundane" about my modern name or that of
many others.

however, if you have some sources of the way modern people in the middle
ages tracked who had what awards from the crown i am sure mordrea would be
willing to hear them. after that we can discuss the way those efforts dont
help one servant serve so many others. or we can discuss the fact that
mordea has stated that she will only use these modern names to keep the
database current and accurate. but you suggest that she is not up to her
word and i would like to know why.

mordrea when was it you asked for my mothers maiden and my social? i missed
that.

regards
logan

ps i wonder when this will appear since all of my emails seems to "awaiting
moderator approval" for some reason. 11 31 8/27

Really?? I knew this was true in Iceland, but it is the first I've
heard of it in the USA. I really must tell my wife that her name didn't
change after all...

The College of Arms doesn't enter your mundane name in an electronic
database. The corporation isn't dealing purely with game-side issues.
Do you not see a difference there?

And I'm pretty sure that the mundane names collected for the combat
authorization database weren't originally intended to be published on
the web either, but I had no trouble finding them there last year. The
fact that Mordrea doesn't intend to publish them does not bind her
successors to her policy, or from mistakes or theft.

Using mundane names is like using plastic in armor, or polyester in
your court garb: ok if that's what is the best you can afford, but not
something we should encourage on the game side. And the OP is about as
game side as you can get.

I *wish* Mordrea had asked for help researching period ways to
manage and track such things. I'd have helped. She didn't, and that's
her choice and option; she holds the office. I don't so I'm allowed to
kvetch, with all the effectiveness that usually has.
