I apologize to the good gentle to whom this went to, not once, but twice, instead of to the list. I very rarely post to this list, and keep forgetting to hit reply-all.

To be honest with you, I think that the Star Spangled Banner is still much more appropo song for our country, especially considering the war we are about to embark upon. There will be many a 'perilous night' and plenty of 'bombs bursting in air'. And the star spangled banner will always wave as long as we stand united behind it, and our government.

I think it would be a great shame to change our national anthem just when it seems to the most appropriate to describe us and our situation.

God Bless America is a beautiful, moving song. But I think it will cause us problems later on in the war, as it drags out. Peole will here this song, and not be thinking about our long-term goals, but about their missing loved ones, and might start changing their minds about how they feel towards the country's efforts to wipe out terrorists.

We need to be strong right now, not sweet!
