You can donate blood if you were in Britain this May. It's only if you were
there either 4 or 6 months (I don't remember which) during the 80s and part
of the 90s that you can't. At least for that reason.
There's lots of other reasons you can't donate--all having to do with either
your health or blood borne pathogens. Ask your local chapter of the Red
Cross.
The Red Cross, in Maryland anyway, is rather overwhelmed right now. But
they've been emphasising that they will need blood even more NEXT week. And
the week after that.
You can donate platelets more often than whole blood. Call your local blood
bank or Red Cross (next week might be better) to find out about it.
