You can donate platelets (it's called pheresis) once every seven to fourteen
days. And the folks I know who do pheresis are getting calls from the Red
Cross. It appears they're doing OK on whole blood for the time being, but
desperately need platelets.
FYI, just because you've been to England this year doesn't mean you can't
donate. You have to stay there a total of six months (cumulative since I think
1986) before they turn you down.
Call the Red Cross (1-800-GIVE-LIFE) or check their web site to get the full
list of restrictions on blood donation.
