Chocolate is indeed from the new world; it was brought back to Europe very
quickly and became popular still in the 16th century.

If cane sugar be strictly new world I'd be QUITE surprised. On the other
hand it was difficult to come by, expensive, and NOT easy to mix in as it
usually came in these really hard solid cones.

Both chocolate and sugar are period; it's MIXING them that is postperiod.
(Us heralds run into this situation a lot with names...)
