This one, perhaps? I thought I'd might as well post this to the list in
case anyone else wants it.

With His Grey Beard Newly Shaven
traditional Scottish, eighteenth cent. or eariler

A doddered auld carl, he cam o'er the lee
Ah-ha but I will na hae him
He cam o'er the lee tae court wi' me
Wi' his grey beard newly shaven

CHORUS:
Wi' his grey beard newly shaven
He cam o'er the lee tae court wi' me
Wi' his grey beard newly shaven

Verses follow the same format as the 1st, but with the 1st and 3rd
line changed as follows:

So my mother, she tell's me tae open the door
Ah-ha but I will na hae him
I opened the door and he staggered in o'er
Wi' his grey beard newly shaven

Chorus

So my mother, she tell's me tae gie him a chair
Ah-ha but I will na hae him
I gied him a chair and he fell on the flair
(OR: she tell's me tae gie him a stool, I gied him a stool and he
looked like a fool)
Wi' his grey beard newly shaven

Chorus

So my mother, she tells me tae gie him a drink
Ah-ha but I will na hae him
I gies him a drink and he started tae wink
Wi' his grey beard newly shaven

Chorus

So my mother, she tells me tae gie him some meat
Ah-ha but I will na hae him
Well, I'd gie him some meat, but he's nae teeth tae eat
Wi' his grey beard newly shaven

Chorus

So my mother, she tells me tae gie him a kiss
Ah-ha but I will na hae him
If ye like him sae well, ye can kiss him yersel'!
Wi' his grey beard newly shaven

Chorus

I loved it too, so I looked around on the Net and located a tape with
this song on it. Even more fortunately, I loved the rest of the songs on
that tape and can highly recommend it.
Ed Miller "Live at the Cactus Cafe". -

"The Old Woman and her Cat" which Eogan also sang at that Bardic.

Enjoy!

Bardic Circle a song was sung that for some reason the refrain & last
verse have been going round my mind for the past week. Could anyone
send me the verses? I recall that this was a well-known song for most
of the group there, was written in 12th? cent. Scotland, concerning
the courting of a young lady by a much older man, and that the Bard
singing it at this event had learned it from a folk singer in the
1970s. I believe the last verse goes: If you like him so much you can
kiss him yourself but no, I will never have him.
