I think that's the big question. When you pre-register for Pennsic, the checks
are made out to "Coopers Lake Campground," so it may be that the funds being
used never passed through SCA, Inc. However, it the budget comes from the
East's Exchequer, I don't know if that's true or not. If they went through the
Kingdom accounts there might be an issue, the kingdoms being part of SCA, Inc.
and subject to its by-laws:

"No part of the net earnings, properties, or assets of this corporation, on
dissolution or otherwise, shall inure to the benefit of any private person or
individual, or any member, Director or officer of the Society."

Remember, SCA, Inc. is a charitable, non-profit 501(c)(3) organization.

The Coopers certainly qualify as "private persons." The building of the fort
is a capital improvement to their property, and could be interpreted as
a "benefit." Their published policy in the past has always been (very
reasonably) that any capital improvement to their property becomes theirs and
the builder maintains no rights to it.

I think its reasonable to ask how the Pennsic budget is funded. If that's
kosher, I don't see an issue. If corporate money was used, then I think the
experts need to take a look and see if we're still within the rules for our tax
status.
