-  If I recall correctly, there was a Complete Anachronist that came out a
few years back (ca 1990?) and it was the Japanese Miscellany...I have a copy
of it, but that may not be much help...
  Japanese names are ALWAYS family name then personal name (female names
often end in "ko" (Japanese for little))
  Mon (Japanese blazonry) are related to the family, and tend to be
geometrical or simple repeating patterns (usually in threes)
