The following were RETURNED at Golden Dolphin's January meeting:
Alienor de Narbonne. Device resubmission.
Azure mullety of six points Or, a plate.
Conflict with Heather MakKinzie of Weir November of 1995 (via
Calontir): Purpure mullety Or, a moon in her plenitude argent.
There is only one Clear Difference for the change of tincture to the
field, with nothing for the differing number of points on the mullets
or the interior details of the moon. When you resubmit, we recommend
a smaller plate and more whole mullets.
Brennus Barbatus. Badge.
Per fess vert and checky Or and vert, in chief two griffins segreant
addorsed Or.
Conflict with Hugh the Undecided January of 1974: Gules, two
griffins segreant addorsed Or.
There is only one Clear Difference for the change of tincture to the
field. Even if there were no conflict, this would have been
returned for a redraw for more (minimum 3 rows) and smaller checks.
You might consider Vert, two griffins segreant addorsed Or and a
base checky Or and vert. This would be very similar but would give
you 2 CDs, one for the change to the tincture of the field and
another for the addition of the peripheral base.
Hrothgar Gunn-Arr. Badge. (See PENDS for name and device.)
Or, a lion couchant reguardant queued of nine tails sable, vomiting
flames gules.
Conflict with Katharina Alexandra Zrinski September of 1991 (via
the Middle): Checky gules and argent, a catamount couchant
sable.
There is only 1 Clear Difference for the tincture of the field, and
nothing for the number of tails.
Your term kipnuyarbullah' has not been used previously in SCA
heraldry. If you wish to use it, you must follow the established
procedure: document the term to period and provide evidence that this
is the normal period depiction. Lacking such documentation, we have
reblazoned the charge.
Jacquetta Edington of Yorkshire. Device resubmission.
Purpure, a goblet and in chief three roses Or.
This is returned for a redraw. While roses do have a small spike'
on each petal, they do not normally have large mullets on their
interiors. We found no conflicts at this time.
Nikulai Ivanovich. Device change.
Orange, on a bend cotised sable, three foxes masks palewise orange.
Orange is not an heraldic tincture. Laurel Queen of Arms regularly
returns submissions that use orange in place of Or; accordingly, so
must we. We found no conflicts at this time.
Richard de Montbrai. Badge.
(Fieldless) A griffin segreant azure.
Conflict with Brendan McEwen December of 1996 (via Ansteorra): Per
fess argent and gules, a griffin segreant azure.
There is only one Clear Difference for fieldlessness.
S{u:}dent{u:}r, Canton of. Name and device resubmission.
The documentation submitted does not support this as a placename.
Most of it referred to personal given names, which are not proof of
an element in a placename. In addition, when you are submitting
documentation in a foreign language, it should be translated; the
College of Heralds cannot always count on having a herald who is
fluent in a particular language.
The submitting herald explained that this was a dialectic form, not
standard German. Unfortunately, the Rules for Submission are very
clear: III.1. Name Grammar and Syntax - All names must be
grammatically correct for period names and follow documented
patterns.
Standard grammatical rules for a language will be applied unless
documentation is provided for non-standard usages in period names
from that language.
No such documentation was provided.
Thorfinn of Dun Carraig. Device resubmission.
Chevronelly sable and gules.
The Rules for Submission, VIII.2.b.iv: iv. Elements evenly divided
into multiple parts of two different tinctures must have good
contrast between their parts.
For example, "checky argent and gules" is acceptable, but "checky
azure and gules" is not.
Sable and gules, as colors, do not have good contrast for the
purpose of these rules.
