Thank you Master Jonathas it saved me from reposting it :)

Alright well I feel better about the proposal then and fully support that. I
guess what got me going was the head of the IKAC was trying to propose rules
changes to each Kingdom when it comes to safety which I believe is up to
each Kingdom to enforce. I found that strange instead of guidance for
equipment types, no plastic nocks, etc... Maybe Im just all fired up this
week for some reason? Thank you all for the help with this one!

Sorry, meant to reply to the entire list with this...

Quite the opposite, the proposed rule (which is the last line) is intended
to disallow only the modern style of trigger/lock mechanism, ie the ones we
have been complaining about at Pennsic. The current rule (which is the
second line) can be misread to disallow tickler style triggers by someone
not overly familiar with crossbows and the different definitions.

In the Period Crossbow Division Sir Jon is after the same thing we are,
getting rid of the restocked modern crossbows.

Good evening my friends. Not sure how many of you have been following the
posts on yahoo or Facebook about this topic so I decided to repost it here.
I will go on record and say I have already made my posts completely against
Sir John's thoughts. This would essentially ban most of the crossbows we
shoot in our Kingdom from IKAC's which is crazy! What he calls "the tickler"
is the style trigger most of us are shooting. Since I have been in the SCA
both fighting and Target I can't think of one accidental discharge I have
ever witnessed due to someone being careless with the trigger.

* This is regarding a possible change to the IKAC rules for Period
Crossbow. The rules currently read.

"To be counted as a period style crossbow all the following conditions must
be met: 1) The stock must be made of wood. 2) It may not have a rifle-style
butt. 3) It may not have a modern style lock (period forms of self-resetting
mechanisms are fine, however) or a trigger. 4) It may not have sights."

Part 3: can be read as to not allow any form of trigger. When I first wrote
the rules, the intent was not to allow any form of "modern" release
mechanism or any "modern" trigger. The definition of "trigger" is: "a small
device that releases a spring or catch and so sets off a mechanism, esp. in
order to fire a gun." The way it currently reads it can also be read to not
allow a tickler, the long lever style that runs parallel to the crossbow
stock which acts as a trigger to the rolling nut, pin or claw. It also does
not allow the use of late per...iod 1400's through 1500's multi axle lock
mechanisms that used the short trigger, perpendicular to the stock, as in
guns of that period. This type of release was common on the better late
period target crossbows and the trigger was protected by a trigger guard.
Some of these guards can be mistaken for a tickler because they resemble
them and others look like the trigger guard on a hand gun.

The Keeper of the IKAC felt feel that discussion at SCA Archery on Yahoo
previously, had indicated that the use of triggers on crossbows was thought
to be unsafe and that it should not be allowed. My opinion is that the use
of a trigger with a trigger guard is safer than the use of a tickler style
trigger or even a thumb lever located on the top of the stock, because they
are not protected and can be accidentally bumped and the lock released.

I would like to hear your opinions on this. Should the rule be changed next
year to say "3) It may not have a modern style lock (period forms of
self-resetting mechanisms are fine, however) or a modern trigger.
