[Archers] Youth Target Archery Marshal Program

Welcome to my world! I've been coaching kid's ice hockey for some 19
years now and seen a lot of this. USAHockey mandates a background check
on all adults who go on the ice during practice, on the bench during
games or in the dressing rooms. I have made it a rule for myself to
NEVER be in the dressing room when there is just one other kid. BUT the
positive side of all of this is that we get a chance to be a POSITIVE
role model for the kids and, hopefully, have a positive impact on them.
Be safe, be careful, be positive, make a positive impact.

Oh yeah, this scares the hell out me! In Maryland if you simply touch a
childs shoulder even with their parents present, it can be considered
assault! We will have to spread the word to be cautious....

And, it gets tricky. This past WoW, I had a LOT of kids on the range.
I gave two of them permission to be there without their parents, BUT,
the other kids and parents wanted to know why it was okay for those kids
and not for theirs. It ended up being a pain in the butt and I had to
toss one kid off the range, and her mom came to me with "issues". Oi!

:-) Be aware, be cautious, be careful.

Just to clarify here because Cameron's statement, perhaps, points to a

different understanding of Janyn's statement.

The age that was lowered, was for a Youth to become a Marshal. It has

nothing to do with 'being on the range'.

A youth at any age (7, 3, heck 6 months), can be on the age and shooting

as long as a marshal feels safe about it. And that can be with, or

without, their parents being present. Again, it's all a judgement call

of the marshal.

I've known 5 year olds who I trust on the range without their parents.

And I've known 15 year olds, who I want their parent standing right next

to them.
