Noble Friends, Especially Fellow Archers,

Sunday 18 November is the acknowledged anniversary of the day in 1307 that William Tell shot the apple from his son's head. Whether this actually happened is debatable, unless of course you are Swiss, with the oldest known version of the story dated to 1482. However, William Tell was a very real person, a master crossbowman, and indeed he did lead the revolt against Austrian tyranny. True or not, the apple tale is one of the great touchstones of European culture.

You can read more about William Tell at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Tell .

Yours Aye,

Lord Mungo Napier, Who is Poor Shot With a Crossbow (or latch, as we Scots call it)
