Noble Friends,

Today is the day in 1545 when Henry VIII's flagship, the MARY ROSE, sunk
(or was sunk) in the Solent estuary during a battle with the French.
Most of the more than 400 men aboard perished when the ship went down in
just minutes, most trapped below decks or under archery netting. This
included a company of archers, and their some of their bows and other
gear recovered in the 1980s are our best source of information on
archery of the time.

You can read about the MARY ROSE at:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mary_Rose .

The official MARY ROSE web site is: http://www.maryrose.org/ .

Yours Aye,

Lord Mungo Napier, A Big MARY ROSE Fan
