[Archers] Yew Wood for Free

Calling all bowyers (or general woodworkers):

About two years ago the snow brought down two limbs off the yew tree in
my backyard. I don't know what species this tree is, though since it
apparently came from a nursery, it is probably Pacific or oriental yew.
The two limbs have been seasoning in my basement (dry and temperature
controlled), with the vague idea of making a couple of bows. I've since
learned from experience with oak that I'm no bowyer, so I would like
them to go to someone else who can appreciate this rare and beautiful wood.

The two limbs are about 8' long, and range from about 6" down to 4" in
diameter. They are slightly curved, and both have a fork about halfway
down. I don't know if one could get decent bow staves from them or not.
They certainly could yield enough thin wood for many recurve limb
laminations, or some interesting grips. Maybe someone would like to make
walking sticks or some other project with them.

Here's the rub: you have to come up to Charlottesville to get them, and
would probably need a pick-up. They are too long to go in my Honda.
Otherwise, one or both are FREE to the first person who asks. If there
are no takers by the end of the week, I will make a more general offer
on the Merry Rose. They could be picked up anytime this spring, but I
want them out of the basement by June.

Please contact me off-list if interested.

Yours Aye,

Mungo
