Folks, I'm getting the overall impression that the consensus of this
group is that the TA MIC should simply get in contact with and stay in
contact with the autocrat of the event. I would add two things into the
mix. I personally would not accept TA MIC for an event under two
conditions. 1 - I am unfamiliar with the site, and 2 - it is a 3 - 4
hour drive one way to the event. That drive precludes me visiting the
site prior to the event and familiarizing myself with the options.

I am the TA MIC for the upcoming coronation. I know the site as my
barony used it a few weeks ago for their birthday event. I have been in
near constant contact with the autocrat who, while exceptionally capable
as an organizer and autocrat, knows next to nothing about archery. But
the contact with him and the knowledge of the site allows me to know
where I am going to set the range and the issues associated with
archery, our new rule, and the site limitations, and with this site
there are many!

Yes, I was the one who suggested a warranting process for autocrats. So
now I'm saying as good marshals our job is to get in contact and stay in
contact with event autocrats. AND only accept MIC duties at sites we
either know or can visit ahead of time. On rare occasion we may be
called upon to be TA MIC at an event that we do not know nor have
visited. In that case I would make the point of alerting both the
autocrat and archery community that you do not know the site and it may
not meet our requirements therefore archery may digress into a
conversation about fletching materials in the feast hall and NO
SHOOTING. Given that knowledge I now, as an attendee, have the choice
of driving 3 or more hours with a "maybe there will be archery" facing
me.

Problems have solutions. Most are simple but we always like to over
complicate the solutions. Why?
